Sabita Binte Azad Shifa, a distinguished alumna of Jagannath University’s Department of Social Work (2014–15 session), has earned a place among the Top 50 Female Leaders of the World, recognized by Rosatom, Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy corporation.

Shifa was selected in the “Visible Power Female Leadership” category by Obninsk Tech Academy, a subsidiary of Rosatom. Following a rigorous global selection process, she was chosen for her professional achievements, voluntary engagements, academic contributions, and international recognition.

As part of the honor, she will join the World Atomic Week in Russia and the International Female Leadership Camp, where more than 10,000 participants from across the globe will gather to celebrate 80 years of success in the nuclear industry.

Shifa’s career reflects an impressive blend of research, humanitarian service, and leadership. She previously served as a lecturer at the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS), worked with World Vision International Bangladesh under the Rohingya Crisis Response Project, and conducted research at North-Eastern Hill University, India. She is also the Founder and CEO of Village Empowerment, an initiative dedicated to enhancing soft skills and communication among Bangladeshi youth.

Hailing from Gazipur, Shifa comes from a family with a strong educational legacy. Her father, Engineer Abul Kalam Azad, twice received UN scholarships and pursued higher education at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (Lumumba University), while her mother, Sohorat Begum, served as a primary school headmistress.

Over the years, Shifa has represented Bangladesh in numerous prestigious international platforms. In 2025, she participated in the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Russia. Earlier, in 2024, she led Bangladesh as Head of Delegation at the International Children’s Committee in Moscow and later joined Eurasia Global in Orenburg, where Bangladesh received special recognition.

Her accomplishments also extend to public speaking. She became Bangladesh’s International Speech Contest Champion (2019–20) under Toastmasters International, later competing as a semifinalist across Asia. She was the first female president of Bangladesh’s first Advanced Toastmasters Club, coached clubs in the United States, and has delivered keynote speeches in India and Nepal.

Currently serving as the Head of the Children’s Committee of Bangladesh’s National Preparatory Committee for the World Youth Festival in Russia, Shifa continues to shape youth leadership on a global scale.

Looking ahead, she expressed her vision:  By 2027, through Village Empowerment, I aim to train 100,000 children in communication, presentation, and public speaking skills, helping to prepare a confident and capable new generation.
