Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) vice-president Abu Shadik Kayem has declared that the “July Revolution” began at Dhaka University, and that the future of Bangladesh will also take shape from the same campus.

Kayem, elected from the Shibir-backed Oikyoboddho Shikkharthi Jote panel in a landslide victory, made the remarks at a press conference held at the university’s Senate Bhaban on Tuesday morning (10 September), reports Prothom Alo.

“No matter the ideology, everyone will work together,” he said, pledging inclusivity beyond political divides. “The expectations of students are our expectations. We will build the campus as a dream campus.”

Kayem also announced that candidates who contested the election together would serve as advisers to the panel, saying. They will give us guidance.

Emphasizing the historic role of recent student movements, he said, The July Revolution began at Dhaka University. From Dhaka University, we will envision the future Bangladesh.

The newly elected VP also offered condolences to the family of the journalist who died while covering Monday’s election and expressed gratitude to members of the media.

Meanwhile, SM Forhad, elected general secretary (GS) from the same panel, described the outcome as a collective win for the university’s student body.

My personal observation is that being elected GS is the victory of all students of Dhaka University. There is no scope to see it as the personal victory of Forhad, he said.

“For as long as I hold this responsibility, if I make mistakes, I hope the students of the university will correct me,” Forhad added, noting that no victory procession would be held.
