SU Dominators Clinch Title in Sonargaon University Champions League

The Sonargaon University Sports Club successfully hosted the franchise-based football tournament “SU Champions League 2025”, featuring nine competitive teams. Each team was represented by a faculty member as team owner and a female student as team ambassador, adding a unique dimension to the tournament.

In a nail-biting final held at Tejgaon’s Turf Nation on Sunday, SU Dominators emerged victorious after a tense tiebreaker, defeating SU Royals, who finished as runners-up. Nayeem was named Best Player of the tournament, while Zakir of SU Dominators earned the Best Goalkeeper award.

The final saw evenly matched play, with neither side able to score in regular time. The championship was ultimately decided in the penalty shootout, where Zakir’s remarkable goalkeeping proved decisive, making him the standout performer of the match.

The tournament, spanning from group stages to knockout rounds, showcased exceptional skill, strategy, and teamwork. SU Dominators’ consistent performance and coordinated play guided them to the final and ultimately to the championship.

The prize-giving ceremony was graced by the university’s Trustee Board Chairman, Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamim Ara Hasan, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Bulbul Ahmed, SU Sports Club Director Mehrab Hossain Johsy, Club President Abu Bakkar Jony, former Bangladesh national cricket selector Hannan Sarkar, and former national football goalkeeper Biplob Bhattacharjee.

Trophies and crests were awarded to the champions SU Dominators, runners-up SU Royals, Best Player Nayeem, and Best Goalkeeper Zakir. The stadium reverberated with applause and cheers from an enthusiastic audience.

Sports Director Mehrab Hossain Johsy remarked, The cooperation of all participants and the sportsmanship displayed by the players made this tournament a resounding success.

According to the organizers, SU Champions League 2025 plays a crucial role in promoting leadership, teamwork, health awareness, and mental wellness among students. The modern facilities of Turf Nation, combined with a spectator-friendly environment and outstanding athletic performances, ensured the tournament will be remembered for years to come.
