Bangladesh Student Council distributed blankets to nearly 800 underprivileged and cold-affected families in Tetulia upazila, one of the northernmost regions of the country, on Friday, January 9. The initiative was part of the council’s 16th annual winter relief program, Winter Smile 2026.
The program took place at Shalbahal Koimari Field, where blankets were handed out to the families to help them withstand the winter chill.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahin Afroze Khasru as the chief guest. Special guests included Md. Rezaul Karim Shahin, General Secretary of Upazila BNP, Abu Bakar Siddique Kabul, Headmaster of Shalbahal Dual-Mode High School, and Abu Bakar Siddique Shobuj, Secretary of Upazila Chhatra Dal. Local dignitaries, including Tarunyo volunteer advisor Delwar Hossain Nayon and Advocate Ahsan Habib, founding president of the Panchagarh District Association in Dhaka, were also present.
S.M. Ashke Ullah Sopan, founder and mentor of Bangladesh Student Council, said, “For the past 16 years, we have consistently stood by the underprivileged and cold-affected people of northern Bangladesh. We will continue to support people during any future disasters or humanitarian crises.”
Parvez Ahmed Biplob, project lead of “Winter Smile 2026,” stated that the council strategically distributed 800 blankets this year. Volunteers had previously visited homes and distributed tokens to ensure that the aid reached the families who needed it most.
The initiative was implemented with support from Article Structure Limited. Organizers emphasized that as part of their social responsibility, such humanitarian programs will continue in the future.
