Marking the anniversary of the July Revolution, the Jagannath University Debating Society (JUDS) has secured first place among all participating teams from Dhaka district in the 2025 edition of the July Revolution Through My Eyes idea competition, organized by the Ministry of Local Government.

The Dhaka District Council officially announced the winning team on Tuesday (July 14) through an official notification.

Representing JUDS in the contest were President Main Al Mubashshir, General Secretary Mehedi Hasan, and Treasurer Sadia Afroz Mim. Their winning proposal, titled July Uprising Debate Festival 2025, aims to commemorate the July Revolution by engaging youth in intellectual discourse.

As part of the award, the team will receive a grant of 10 lakh BDT, which they have pledged to fully allocate toward organizing the national debate festival under the JUDS banner.

Speaking about the initiative, JUDS General Secretary Mehedi Hasan said: Our main objective is to intellectually spread the concept of the July Revolution among the youth. Debate is one of the most effective mediums for building this narrative.

He further added that the team plans to organize the festival within this month, inviting debaters from schools, colleges, and universities across the country: We believe this will help youth grow into politically aware citizens.

JUDS President Main Al Mubashshir expressed pride in their achievement: Our idea secured first place in the competition organized by the Dhaka District Administration. The Deputy Commissioner is providing us with 10 lakh taka to implement this project. With this fund, we will organize the national debate festival, Insha’Allah.

It is worth noting that, according to an official statement issued by the government on July 5, the competition aimed to foster innovative thinking among the country’s youth. Young people aged 15 to 30 could participate, with entries accepted from youth organizations, debate clubs, scout and rover groups, cultural organizations, and educational institutions.
