On Tuesday, 15 July 2025, Bangladesh Maritime University solemnly observed the first day of the “July Uprising Reawakening Program 2025” with due reverence and a reflective atmosphere.

The commemorative event was graced by the Honourable Vice-Chancellor of the University, Rear Admiral Dr. Khondkar Akhter Hossain, who attended as the Chief Guest. Also present were esteemed faculty members, administrative staff, university personnel, students—including those injured in the July Uprising—and many others who gathered to pay tribute and engage in reflection.

The event served as a platform to remember the historic July Uprising, exchange personal experiences, and chart a vision for constructive future actions. Assistant Professor Swarna Dutta from the Department of Bengali and Lecturer Hasibul Islam from the Department of Management shared their reflections on the events of July 2024.

In observance of “July Women’s Day,” Anbeshona Banik, a student from the Department of Port and Shipping Management, delivered a powerful speech highlighting the significance of women’s leadership and their roles in mass movements.

In his address, the Honourable Vice-Chancellor paid deep homage to the martyrs and the injured of the July Uprising, including Shaheed Abu Sayeed, Yamin, and Mugdho. He connected the legacy of this movement with Bangladesh’s Liberation War, the mass movements of 1971, the events of July 2024, and global uprisings throughout history. He expressed hope that “July” would stand as a lasting symbol of awakening and resistance in both national and international contexts.

The Vice-Chancellor urged students to equip themselves with modern skills in this technology-driven era. He emphasized the importance of proficiency in Artificial Intelligence (AI), smart technology, web design, graphic design, robotics, drones, and other cutting-edge innovations relevant to the maritime sector. He also stressed the need to transform the country’s vast human population into productive human resources, considering Bangladesh’s limited land and growing demographic.

The event concluded with a prayer session, seeking peace for the departed souls and strength for the nation. A group photography session followed, capturing the day’s memorable moments and symbolizing the significance of the occasion.
