17 Jagannath University Writers Honored with ‘Best Writer’ Award

The Jagannath University (JnU) unit of the Bangladesh Young Columnist Forum organized the Writers’ Conference and Freshers’ Reception 2025 at the CSE Department’s VC Room, where 17 students of the university received the prestigious Best Writer Award.

The conference was inaugurated on Wednesday (10 September) by the chief guest, JnU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim. The program was presided over by Abdul Kader Nagib, President of the JnU Writers’ Forum, while a welcome speech was delivered by Rakibul Islam, General Secretary of the organization.

The students who received the Best Writer Award include:   Sohanur Rahman, Maysa Fahmida Islam, Sadia Sultana Rimi, Hena Shikder, Mishkatul Islam Mumu, Ishtiaq Hossain Ratul, Nishat Binte Ansar, Golam Mawla Habib, Mohammad Rifat Hossain, Itu Moni, Imtiaz Uddin, Urmila Akter Jhinuk, Nadira Orpa, Champa Akter, Sabrina Jahan, Habib Ullah and Mosammat Happy.

The awards were handed over to the winners by the Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University, Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim, along with special guest Professor Dr. Sabina Sharmin, Treasurer of JnU.

Expressing his gratitude, awardee Ishtiaq Hossain Ratul said, “I am truly happy today. I thank Almighty Allah for this honor.”

Another awardee, Nishat Binte Ansar, remarked, “The Young Columnist Forum, JnU unit, has awakened our writer’s identity. This is a matter of great honor for me and many other young writers like us.”

More than 250 students of Jagannath University participated in the day-long conference, which featured a writing exhibition, seminars, career development discussions, essay competitions, quizzes and cultural performances.

Special guests at the event included Professor Dr. Md. Rois Uddin, General Secretary of the JnU Teachers’ Association, and Professor Dr. Muhammad Tajammul Haque, Proctor of JnU. Among the invited guests were Mehedi Hasan Himel, Convener of JnU Chhatra Dal; Riazul Islam, President of JnU Islami Chhatra Shibir; and Mahmudul Hasan, Joint Convener of JnU Chhatra Dal.
