Journalist H M Imran Honoured with ‘July Warrior’ Award for Courageous Reporting During July Uprising

Senior journalist H M Imran Hossain has been conferred the prestigious ‘July Warrior Award’ in recognition of his courageous reporting during the mass uprising of July 2024. Currently serving as a reporter for Star News, Imran previously worked with News 24.

The award was presented on Wednesday afternoon at a ceremony organized by the Anti-Aggression Movement at the Diploma Engineers’ Institute in Kakrail. The event recognized individuals who played pivotal roles in documenting and supporting the July–August student and public uprising.

During the uprising, Imran remained on the ground in challenging and hazardous conditions, reporting developments in real-time and bringing the events to the public through visual media. His dedication and professional commitment were widely acknowledged by attendees.

The ceremony was graced by Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury, member of the advisory board of BNP Chairperson, as the chief guest. Several political leaders, social figures, journalists, and civic representatives also attended the event.

As part of the program, families of martyrs, injured, and persecuted participants of the July uprising received Tk 50,000 each along with commemorative plaques. In addition, over 150 journalists were honoured with the ‘July Warrior Recognition’ for their brave contributions in reporting during the movement.

The awards underscored the critical role of journalists in upholding democracy and documenting pivotal historical events, highlighting their commitment to professional integrity even under perilous circumstances.
